I'm just starting off and loving disc golf.  Starting with the usual recommmended discs for a beginner.  Doing all the moves, grips and throws as instructed.  The only thing I can't find is what disc to use, and when.  At what distances should I use a mid range disc?  Is it always best to start at the tee with a driver?  How far out can I use a putter?

Now a little info on my "skills":

I can throw about 250ft.  Most of my throws have a sort of "S" movement on them or straight (depending if I think too much and don't feel it).  My putts are a bit wobbly.  Hopefully this info will give you some idea on what I should be using and when.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

being a newbie myself of only 7 months... i'd say get to know your discs! research them online and then go to an open field where you can get a really good idea about what discs do what. after a while you will be able to see the flight pattern of your discs, be able to accent the natural curvature of said flight patterns, and manipulate the wind the way you want to (if you dont have magical powers like myself then just walk to the other side of the field if you have a headwind and then throw with the wind) so you get a feel of how you would need to compensate anhyzer/hyzer with crosswinds. if there is no wind then just work on your different throws. backhand, sidearm, over the top thumbers, and tomahawks.  i dont have a portable basket so i just toss a "target disc" out and try to land as close as I can. throw using your opposite arm, get creative and just throw, throw, throw!

good luck!

after you do that for a while you will instinctively know what to throw, when... prescribing the right style of disc, throw, and touch when you are on a course.  Cool
